The synthesis of tris(ortho-carboranyl)borane (BoCb3), a single site neutral Lewis superacid, in one pot from commercially available materials is achieved. high fluoride ion affinity (FIA) confirms its classification as superacid and the Gutmann-Beckett method well adducts with bases indicate stronger acidity over widely used fluorinated aryl boranes. electron withdrawing effect ortho-carborane lack pi-delocalization LUMO rationalize unusually acidity. Catalytic studies that BoCb3 superior catalyst for promoting C−F bond functionalization reactions than tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane [B(C6F5)3].

Tris[3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]borane (1, BArF(18)), has been synthesised on a practical scale for the first time. According to the Gutmann-Beckett method it is a more powerful Lewis acid than B(C(6)F(5))(3).
